Real Option Valuation

The Real Option Valuation model encompasses a suite of option pricing tools to quantify the embedded strategic value for a range of financial analysis and investment scenarios. Traditional discounted cash flow investment analysis will only accept an investment if the returns on the project exceed the hurdle rate. While this is a worthwhile exercise, it fails to consider the myriad of strategic options that are associated with many investments. This model provides the ability to identify what options might exist in your proposal and the tools to estimate the quantification of them. The key features of this model include: Ease and flexibility of input, with embedded help prompts; Informative 'Quick Start' menu for choosing the correct tool for the situation; Modified Black Scholes models to value the options to delay, expand, or abandon investments; Automatic binomial 'tree' builder model to evaluate complex strategic options with multiple stages; Nash equilibrium Game Theory model to evaluate market entry strategies in a competitive environment; and Ability to predefine historical investment and/or industry risk profiles to utilize across models.

Gravitational Lensing

Einstein's General Theory of Relativity demonstrates that a large mass can deform spacetime and bend the path of light. So, a very massive object, such as a cluster of galaxies can act as a gravitational lens. When light passes through the cluster from an object lying behind it, the light is bent and focused to produce an image or images of the source. The image may be magnified, distorted, or multiplied by the lens, depending upon the position of the source with respect to the lensing mass. The characteristics of the gravitationally lensed image depend upon the alignment of the observer, the lens and the background object. If the alignment is perfect, the resulting image is an Einstein Ring. With this program, one can draw images to see the effect of gravitational lensing. You can easily test the effects of several parameters by changing them and redrawing the image.

Alarm Health Care

Helping you find high quality health care. The majority of people working long hours on computers each day may experience one or more symptoms such as: (1) upper or lower back pain; (2) neck and shoulder pain; (3) forearms, wrists, hands or fingers with pains, loss of sensation or weakness; and (4) tired eyes, focusing difficulties. PickStock (copyright 2003, Bell Software and Services, Inc.) uses principal components analysis to search out potentially underpriced stocks by analyzing a user-supplied database of historical stock prices. The program is believed to be an implementation of what is known in the financial market modeling community as 'arbitrage pricing theory' (see for example S. Ross, 'The arbitrage theory of capital asset pricing', J. Economic Theory, vol. 13, pp. 341-360, 1976). The theory postulates that a given vector of prices (for example, today's price for a set of stocks) can be explained by a linear combination of underlying economic components. While there is apparently substantial debate in the economic community as to the viability of the arbitrage pricing theory, this application provides a tool to test it out on real data. Who can best make use of this application: It is hoped that any user who can download stock price data into MetaStock text format will find PickStock sufficiently easy to use. Facility in handling text files and importing them into spreadsheets is also a plus. Economists and stock analysts may be able to utilize the program along with a more traditional analysis of economic fundamentals. Scientists, engineers, and students may even be able to tap into the powerful principal components analysis engine that PickStock incorporates by replacing closing prices with arbitrary data (ie. a given 'date' can be associated with one experiment having outputs for each of the 'tickers' with the output values corresponding to the ticker being in the 'close' field).
