The idea is to get the highest score by making very few strokes on the greens and scoring well in the mini games. At the end of each game you get a chance to double, tripple, or destroy your score by playing the last mini game, a gambling machine that can make you or break you.
If you just want to play golf, you always have the option to play 18 holes without mini games and master your putting skills. If you just want to play mini games, you can do that too.
