CHAOS Shredder

Windows does not physically remove deleted files from your hard disk. Emptying your Recycle Bin does NOT protect you at all. Your sensitive files can be recovered, even after you format your hard disk! When you delete a file from Windows, Windows just mark the file as deleted in file allocation table, but the data of the file is still on your hard disk, there are many tools available which can let others easily recover your sensitive files even after you have formated the hard disk. Sensitive data can easily fall into the wrong hands. And because Windows is not capable of deleting information beyond recovery, you are at risk! Passwords, financial documents, even those "about last night" e-mails are fair game for the IT professionals, computer technicians or hackers. CHAOS Shredder allows you to purge, wipe and erase data with methods that far exceed US Department of Defense standards for file deletion (DOD 5220.22).

Sciral Consistency for Macintosh

Calendars keep track of tasks where you need to coordinate with others by setting fixed times and intervals. To-do lists keep track of tasks that you will do once, and that you need to keep in order by priority. But there's another class of activities for which neither traditional calendars nor to-do lists are optimal. You're probably trying to wedge these tasks into those tools, but they really call for a new kind of tool: Sciral Consistency. The kinds of activities or tasks you use Sciral Consistency for share a number of attributes: 1) They don't have deadlines or rigid time intervals, 2) In order to gain their benefits, you must perform them on a regular basis 3) You shouldn't do them too frequently or infrequently, 4) They require minimal coordination with other people, 5) They are often "routine" tasks for which you have not established a habit, and 6) They are "important, but not urgent." Some simple examples are watering your plants or physical exercise. If you examine your life, you may find a surprising number of activities unique to you in both your personal and professional life that could benefit from more CONSISTENCY. Each Sciral Consistency document is a matrix where each row is a task you want to do consistently, and each column is a calendar day. At the intersection of each row and column is a cell that is color coded depending on whether you completed the task that day, and whether the task was pre-due, due, or overdue on that day. Each task has its own unique range of days where it makes the most sense to perform that task again. As you mark tasks complete, the color coding automatically updates, and over time you can get a sense of how consistently you're doing your tasks according to the target ranges you set just by observing the color patterns. The best way to understand Sciral Consistency is to use it!

Mega Miner

Are you a Minesweeper maniac? Then you have got to check out Mega Miner. The Mega Miner game area consists of three mine counters and the playing field. To uncover a square, use the left mouse button to click it. If it is a mine, you lose. If a number appears on the square, it specifies the summarised power of all mines in eight squares that surround the numbered square. The power of the smallest mine is 1, medium - 2, the biggest - 3. To mark a square you suspect contains a 1-power mine, use the right mouse button to click it. Click once more to mark 2-power mine. And to mark 3-power mine just click three times. If you consider all mines are found around a numbered square, uncover the remaining squares around it by clicking the numbered square with the middle or left and right mouse buttons simultaneously. The object of the game is to find all the mines on the playing field as quickly as possible without uncovering any of them.

Find Shortcuts

The window that appear as Find Shortcuts starts is similar to the Find Files window that comes with Windows 98. Most of the elements (menus, buttons, etc.) should be familiar. Shortcuts always have a "target" which will be invoked. Depending on the target, the shortcut may open a folder, run a program, open a document, play a music file, open a web page, and so forth. When "Test" is selected (from the Edit menu, clicking the Test button, or by pressing F7), Find Shortcuts checks the target of each shortcut to see if it is valid. Since shortcuts can have a variety of targets, testing can involve various actions, but in most cases Find Shortcuts simply checks to see if the target exists on your system. During testing, a progress bar appears in the second portion of the status bar. If any shortcuts fail the test, that part of the status bar will indicate how many failed. Shortcuts that pass the test will display a green check mark beside the filename. Those that fail will have a red "X" and the entire line for that shortcut will be red a If the Named box is left empty, Find Shortcuts will search for all shortcuts. Otherwise, only shortcut filenames matching the search string will be found. Wildcards (* and ?) can be used, but are often not necessary. For example, entering "ms" in the Named box will locate all shortcuts which contain "ms" (or "MS") anywhere in their filename. The Named box also includes a drop down list of previous search strings. The Types box can limit the search to only certain types of shortcuts. This can be useful if you are searching through large numbers of shortcuts (e.g., the entire Start Menu). Once you click Find Now (or press Enter) you will see search results (if any shortcuts matching the search criteria are found). Once you see files you can test the shortcuts.

XP App Wizard

In many homes, more than one person uses a single computer. Windows XP is the first Microsoft operating system designed for home use that will allow each user to have his or her own individual profile and settings. One big advantage of individual profiles is that is now possible to provide a customized Start Menu for each user. You may want to disable "System Tools" from your child's profile or prevent certain applications from launching automatically except for when you log in. Unfortunately, it can be difficult and time-consuming to configure the Start menu and startup applications using the Windows XP base installation. The XP App Wizard provides an intuitive, easy-to-use interface that allows you to add or remove items to your Windows XP Start Menu user-by-user. The wizard displays all Start Menu items in a grid, with a column of check boxes for each user. If you want an item displayed in a user's Start Menu, you check it. Remove the check mark and the item will be removed. The wizard is aware of the complexities of the "All User" meta-user and will handle them appropriately.
