Any falsification of information was labeled cheating. Answer sheets that failed the test for independent marking received a score of zero. Students wanting to protest to the Student Disciplinary Committee were offered assistance. Not one student protested. Cheating complaints by classmates dropped to near zero. Students named the software The Cheat Checker.
The Cheat Checker examines similar pairs of answer sheets for independent marking. Any pair that fails the test is labeled presumptive cheating. The Cheat Checker then examines the uniqueness of this pair with respect to the entire class. A significant finding for uniqueness and for presumptive cheating is labeled confirmed. Cheating has always been a problem with multiple choice tests. The Cheat Checker helped honest students relax knowing they did not have to compete with those who did cheat.
The original Cheat Checker examined one version of a test at a time. There was little need for multiple version tests when using the Cheat Checker in classes of 120 students. There was one exception: When a student was reported to the Student Disciplinary Committee for cheating, only one member fully understood the significance of the results. The committee quickly discovered that the lower the grade, the easier to detect cheating. This was considered unfair. Faculty are more familiar with and accepting of multiple version test results.
Students have learned to breach the expected security given by multiple version tests. The current Cheat Checker examines all versions of a test as marked.
The structure for each answer file is: nine character ID:one space:answer string. The answer key ID is 999000111. Student records follow the answer key.
A Rule of Thumb for Cheating is five to seven consecutive identical pairs of wrong answers distributed in a string of paired right answers.

NEPM is a very general, highly configurable, two part software system that monitors any type of logged data from IP networked equipment and reports it via E-mail and web pages. Current conditions and history from systems based on Windows NT/2000 and UNIX can be tracked and reported. Most major server, switch and router systems can be monitored, without running agents on the target systems. Many networks behind separate firewalls can be reported on at one central site. NEPM itself is system independent and can be hosted on either a UNIX or WinNT system or a combination of these with equal ease. NEPM monitors and reports uptime, critical events such as intrusion attempts, access rates, bytes-transferred rates, and error rates of network nodes. Unique precursor event links drill down instantly to the causes of downtime, intrusion events, etc. Performance graphs highlight element throughput and error rate. DataFitX is developed using COM, so it can be used in any environment that supports COM, including Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Visual C++, Delphi and VBA (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access or any VBA enabled client). A DataCollection object provides methods and procedures for importing and gathering data, as well as providing statistical summaries for the data. The NonlinearRegression and MultipleNonlinearRegression objects provide methods and procedures for defining regression models with up to 100 fitting parameters and performing nonlinear regression on data containing up to 50 independent variables. The CubicSpline object performs cubic spline interpolation on 2-dimensional data. These objects provide properties and methods that return results for the fitting parameters, as well as detailed statistical summaries of the regression results. Arrays of predicted values and residuals are automatically generated, but you can also predict values on a point by point basis (Y at a value of X), or create arrays of predicted values based on data arrays you supply. These objects also include methods to perform derivative and multiple root calculations (X values at a specified value of Y). There are more than 600 pre-defined models, but you can easily define your own by passing a string representation of a model to one of the model creation methods. You can also create event-based regression models, which allows the client code to supply the function evaluations and optionally the derivative calculations through raised events. There are ten objects with 232 methods, procedures and events. You can process the regression results in the client code, or export regression results in DataFit native file format.
