Alkonost MaxFormat enables you to format floppy disks to maximum capacity with maximum efficiency.
MaxFormat can format floppies to the current standard formats for 3.5 inch disks of 1.4MB and 720K, 5.25 inch disks of 1.2MB and 360K, plus additional non-standard formats: 1.72MB and 1.68MB DMF (3.5 inch disks) and 1.5MB (5.25 inch disks). The DMF (1.68MB) format is often used for distribution floppies under Windows 95/98/Me and Windows NT/2000.
MaxFormat determines the type and number of floppy drives on your system and provides very fast formatting with the optimal sectors interleave to increase reading/writing speeds. You can create diskettes that are quicker than the diskettes formatted by Windows explorer! In addition to formatting floppies, MaxFormat can also duplicate diskettes with standard and non-standard formats, create the exact "track by track" diskette images, verify, make bootable under Windows 95/98/Me/2000/XP (even with DMF formats!), clear disks, format only when needed and copy files and whole directories to the diskette automatically after formatting.
Non-standard formats provide you with extra storage space. The additional disk space is often enough to allow you to squeeze marginal files onto standard floppy disks and save you the trouble of fragmenting the file or compressing it. MaxFormat is ideal for those times when just a few extra kilobytes can make a difference! However, MaxFormat is also useful for normal formatting operations, as it offers a number of unique features to make working with your diskettes more convenient and effective.

[ASP] A program that allows backup and restore of files that span multiple floppy disks. It is not dependent upon the version of the DOS or Windows(tm) operating system. Any size file can be saved on multiple floppy disks, and the disks can already contain other files. The backup/restore process uses cyclic redundancy checks (CRC) to assure exact file integrity. The language of the prompts and messages can be changed into another language. Included with the package is Info-ZIP's 'Zip' and 'UnZip' programs that can be used to compress a list of files into one file prior to backup. The User's Manual is approximately 73 pages and can be created by a companion program; after which you can copy it to your printer. Registered users will not be limited to two floppy disks in a backup. The program can be run from DOS or Windows(tm).

Emsa Disk Check is a dual-purpose utility, for disk checking (prescan and full disk reading) and also benchmarking. What it does, is scanning/reading the entire contents of a disk (CD, DVD or hard drive; or even floppy) and show any read errors that may appear, but also show drive speed information, progress statistics etc. It was designed with simplicity in mind, but usefulness for the user.
You can use it to do a full check of the surface of any disks, for example if you have just scratched a disk and want to see if it is still readable, or if you want to check all your cd library for time or usage related faults. You can also use it for drive benchmarking, easily comparing speeds through 'X' speed multiplier factor, in real conditions. You can also scan hard drives or even floppies - and get real condition performance information accordingly with drive performance but also with the way data is stored on it, which obviously impacts on overall performance. Make sur you clean the CD or DVD before doing tests, to remove dirt and ensure tests are accurate. Freeware.

Picture a scenario...
You've spent a substantial part of the day down-loading the latest, fastest, bestest shoot-em-up game demo. And of course, you're not stupid, so you did this at work using the fast company internet connection. But you wouldn't dare actually play the thing at work, far too risky, you don't want to get fired after all. But it's 56 MB, and the only way to get it home is to copy it onto 41 floppy disks.
Oh well. You spend eons zipping it onto a huge pile of floppies and eagerly take them home. You start unpacking them. It takes an age, but you're so looking forward to the game. All is going fine, but then disaster strikes - the fortieth floppy is duff. You can't read from it. You realise, with mounting dismay, that you'll have to create the whole zip set again. All 41 floppies of it. Unlikely? A tall story you think? Well it happened to me. Really, it did.
Enter Slice'n'Splice. It slices huge files into floppy (or any other) size chunks, and then splices them back together again. Each chunk can be copied to a floppy independently of the rest. Once you have all the chunks where you want them, simply run Slice'n'Splice again (or run the optionally generated MS-DOS .BAT file) to splice the chunks back into the original file. If a floppy fails and a chunk is corrupted, then first of all Slice'n'Splice will detect this and warn you about it, and secondly, you only need to recopy that one bad chunk. Not the whole set.
You can even create a shortcut to Slice'n'Splice in the SendTo directory. Then simply right-click on a file, select Send To from the pop-up menu, then select Slice'n'Splice. Easy.
