But even the mere inclusion of an entry -- that is, one unaccompanied by synonyms or commentary -- damns it as a dimwitticism. The goal is to express ourselves as never before -- in writing that demands to be read aloud, in speech that calls to be captured in print. People who feel as though I am referring to them in some of the commentary in this book may be annoyed by what I write; those who feel as though I am referring to others may be amused by it.
