Bar code 2/5 interleaved is a high density numeric bar code, does not require a checksum, and only lets you encode numbers (you must have an even number of digits. Simply begin each bar code with a ( and end it with a ).

The European Article Numbering system, EAN, was introduced in 1978. There are two different versions of EAN bar codes, EAN 8 and EAN 13, which encode 8 and 13 digit numbers, respectively. A special EAN 13 bar code with a 5 digit supplemental code is used on books to encode the book ISBN number and price. This bar code is called Bookland.

The Universal Product Code has been used in the North American retail industry since 1973. There are two different versions of UPC bar codes, UPC-A and UPC-E. The UPC-A bar code is 12 digits long, including its checksum. UPC-E bar codes are special shortened versions of UPC-A bar codes and are 6 digits long. Both UPC-A and UPC-E bar codes may have optional 2 or 5 digit supplemental codes appended to them.
