RVal

RVal is a program for Electronic Engineers and hobbyists. It will find the nearest preferred resistor values satisfying certain criteria or all within a given tolerance, in whichever range of preferred values the user selects. All the standard value ranges are supported; they are E6, E12, E24, E48, E96 and E192. Preferred values can be selected according to the following criteria: * The nearest preferred value to that specified. * The pair of preferred values having the closest approximation to the required Ratio. * The pair of preferred values having the closest approximation to the required Difference. * Pairs of preferred values which, when placed in series or parallel provide the closest approximation to the required value. * The preferred value required in parallel with an existing value to provide the closest approximation to the required value. The program's output can be printed, saved or appended to a text file or copied (in part or in full) to the clipboard. RVal also includes the facility to output a list of the values in the selected range. Clipboard or file contents are suitable for import into a spreadsheet or similar program.

CaterpillarSSA

The program is based on the powerful model-free method of time series analysis Caterpillar (another name is SSA - Singular Spectrum Analysis). It combines advantages of other methods with simplicity of visual control aids. The basic Caterpillar-SSA algorithm for analyzing one-dimensional time series consists of transformation of the one-dimensional time series to the trajectory matrix by means of a delay procedure (this gives the name to the whole technique); Singular Value Decomposition of the trajectory matrix; reconstruction of the original time series based on a number of selected eigenvectors. The result of the Caterpillar-SSA processing is a natural decomposition of the time series into several components, which can often be identified as trends, seasonalities and other oscillatory series, or noise components. The method can be naturally extended to forecasting time series and its components, processing multidimensional time series and to change-point detection. The "Caterpillar" ideas were independently developed in Russia (St. Petersburg, Moscow) and also in UK and USA (under the name of SSA; that is, Singular Spectrum Analysis). The new book "Analysis of Time Series Structure: SSA and Related Techniques", authors are N. Golyandina, V. Nekrutkin and A. Zhigljavsky, provides a careful, lucid description of SSA general theory and methodology (in English, Chapman&Hall/CRC, see http://www.gistatgroup.com/cat/). The method is a powerful and useful tool of time series analysis in meteorology, hydrology, geophysics, climatology and, according to our experience, in economics, biology, physics, medicine and other sciences; that is, where short and long, one-dimensional and multidimensional, stationary and nonstationary, almost deterministic and noisy time series are to be analyzed. We are sure, that in a near future "Caterpillar"-like methods will rank among the base methods of time series analysis and will be included in standard statistical software.

SurGe

SurGe is a computer program which enables to generate surface as an interpolation (approximation) function of two independent variables. The program has the following basic features: > Implements an interpolation / approximation method called ABOS. > Basic input is a simple ASCII file containing  X, Y and  Z coordinates of points irregularly spaced in some region. > The surface can be defined not only by points, but also by spatial (three-dimensional) polylines. > So called fault lines can define discontinuity in generated surface. > Generated surface can pass through points exactly or can be approximative. > Smoothness of resulting surface can be controlled by one parameter. > Large data sets (with noise) can be effectively filtered. > Quality of resulting surface is comparable with surface created by Kriging or Minimum curvature method.

Numap7

Freeware for fast development and application of regression/approximation networks including the multilayer perceptron (MLP), functional link network, piecewise linear network, self organizing map (SOM) and K-Means clustering. C source code for applying trained networks is provided, so users can use networks in their own applications. User-supplied txt-format training data files, containing rows of numbers, can be of any size. Example training data is also provided. Fast VB Graphics for network training error and SOM cluster formation are included. Extensive help files are provided in the software. Although principally aimed at scientists and engineers, Numap7 is highly automated and requires very few parameter choices by the user. Advanced features include a fast MLP training algorithm (faster than BP and better than LM), input feature selection, pruning (elimination) of useless units (for MLP) and modules for PLN). Utilities are provided for counting patterns, deleting columns, combining files, splitting files, calculating column mean and standard deviation, and plotting column histograms. Training data can be compressed using the discrete Karhunen-Loeve' transform (KLT). This freeware version of Numap7 limits the MLP to 10 hidden units and limits the PLN to 10 clusters. The commercial version, which lacks these limitations, is also available for those who need it. The classification (decision making) version of this software, called Nuclass7, is also available. Numap7.0 was developed by the Image Processing and Neural Networks Lab of Univ. of Texas at Arlington

WordConvs

This document conversion and formatting program allow batch conversion of documents using the converters included in Microsoft Word 7.0 or higher or an external program of your choice. On the converted documents you can set parameters as page, paragraph, font setup, so you can standardize all your documents in a single step. It is also possible to use the program for standardization on documents already in Word format, skipping the conversion part. Both the input and output format are selectable The use of WordConvs with an external converter program can be useful when the conversion program has not batch capability or don't allow to scan subdirectories or/and to process hidden files, as WordConvs has these capabilities. It is useful also when the converter has not an included mechanism to test the completeness of the conversion. Some converters in case of errors in input file truncate the conversion without any kind of indication. In case of processing of a large number of file this can be dangerous as you believe that the results are good whereas you can have as result truncated documents (only partially converted). To test, also if not in a secure way, this case, a program has been inserted which count the words, lines, and characters of the input document. As MsWord has internally the possibility to count them in the output document, it is possible to compare these counters. The input file counters are only an row approximation as only managing the formatting of the input document it is possible to have a good count. A program included in the setup counts words, lines and characters with a variable level of accuracy of the result, depending on the format of the document. For this reason the possibility to set the threshold of percent difference that give rise to a warning message, has been inserted, as well as the possibility to choose which of the 3 available counters to use. If you have a more accurate counting program you have the possibility to use it.
